Session Flow
What happens at each stage of a SpeakNow lesson, from the lobby to the progress screen.
Every SpeakNow session moves through six stages. Understanding each one helps you make the most of your practice time.
Stage 1 — Lobby
Before you connect, the lesson card is displayed showing:
- Learning objectives — the communication goals for this session.
- Key vocabulary — words and phrases your tutor will use and expect you to use.
- Scenario setup — the real-world context (for example, You are at a hotel check-in desk).
Read these carefully before pressing Connect. Arriving prepared leads to noticeably better results.
Stage 2 — Connect
Press the Connect button in the bottom toolbar. The status indicator progresses through three states:
- Disconnected — initial state, no session active.
- Connecting — the session is being established.
- Connected — you are live with the AI tutor.
Allow microphone access if prompted by your browser.
Stage 3 — Live
The AI tutor speaks first and asks the opening question. Answer when the tutor finishes — do not talk over it.
During the session:
- The Conversation panel shows a live transcript of what you and the tutor say.
- The Feedback panel updates your metrics in real time (turn share, word share, filler words, pace).
- If you do not understand a question, say "Could you repeat that?" — the tutor will rephrase.
Stage 4 — Timer
A countdown badge shows the recommended duration for the lesson. When it approaches zero, wrap up your current answer naturally rather than stopping mid-sentence.
Stage 5 — Disconnect
Press the red Disconnect button when you have finished. The session ends and the Progress screen loads automatically.
Warning: Do not close the browser tab during a live session. This ends the session abruptly and may not save your progress statistics.
Stage 6 — Progress
The Progress screen shows a full summary of your session:
- Statistics — all feedback metrics from the session.
- AI summary — a written overview of your performance and conversational highlights.
- Top improvement areas — the two or three areas with the most impact on your fluency.
- Download Report — saves a PDF of all the above for your records.
Review the progress screen before you start your next session. Acting on one improvement area per session is more effective than trying to fix everything at once.
