Lesson Unlock System

How lessons unlock as you progress — assessment gates, level progression, and free lessons.

Assessment Gate

Before you can access lessons on any track, you must complete the track's assessment. The assessment determines your starting level and unlocks the appropriate lessons.

If you have not yet completed an assessment, the track page will show an "Assess Your Level" card prompting you to start — just click Start Assessment.

Within a Level — All Lessons Available Immediately

Once a level is unlocked, every lesson within that level is available straight away. There is no sequential lesson-by-lesson gate inside a level — you can start any lesson in any order.

Example: assessed at A2 on CEFR → all A1 and A2 lessons are immediately accessible. You are free to pick whichever A2 lesson interests you first.

Level-to-Level Progression

Higher levels unlock progressively as you work through the track:

1.Your assessment places you at a starting level (e.g. A2 on CEFR).

2.All levels at and below your starting level are unlocked immediately (e.g. A1 + A2).

3.Complete at least one lesson at your current level to unlock the next level above.

4.This continues as you advance through the track.

Example: assessed at A2 → complete any A2 lesson → B1 unlocks → complete any B1 lesson → B2 unlocks.

Free vs Paid Access

All lessons on all tracks are included with your subscription or paid for using your minute balance. There is no separate "free lesson" tier — every lesson you unlock through progression is available to you as long as you have speaking minutes remaining.

Practise Again

Completed lessons show a "Practise Again" button. Repeating lessons is encouraged — it is one of the best ways to build fluency and confidence.
