Practice Preferences
Personalise your SpeakNow experience — set your learning track and daily goal in your profile, and fine-tune voice, accent, persona, focus, and language in the Change Settings panel before each session.
Two Places to Customise
SpeakNow settings are split into two groups:
1.Profile page (click Settings in the sidebar) — set your Track and Daily Practice Target. These persist across all sessions.
2.Change Settings panel — tap Change Settings before starting any lesson, free practice, or assessment. These apply to the upcoming session only and let you fine-tune voice, accent, focus, persona, tone, and language.
Profile Settings (Persistent)
•Primary Track — choose your main learning programme: CEFR, IELTS, General English, Business English, Public Speaking, or Job Interview. This sets the focus for your dashboard and lesson list.
•Daily Practice Target — set a daily minute goal (5, 10, or 15 minutes/day) to help build a consistent practice habit.
Find these in the Learning Goals card at the top of Settings → Profile.
Change Settings Panel (Per Session)
Tap Change Settings on any practice or lesson page before you press Start. Your selections apply to that session only.
•Session Duration — choose how long the session runs: 5, 10, 15, or 20 minutes.
•Practice Focus — direct the AI towards a specific skill: General Conversation, Fluency & Pace, Grammar Accuracy, Vocabulary Building, Pronunciation, or Filler Word Reduction.
•Discussion Topic — pick a real-life topic for free practice sessions (e.g. Travel, Work, Technology).
•English Level (CEFR) — tell the AI your level (Beginner through Proficient). This adjusts the tutor's pace, vocabulary, and correction strictness. It does not lock or unlock lessons.
•AI Voice — choose the voice your tutor uses. Available: Alloy, Ash, Coral, Echo, Fable, Sage, and Shimmer.
•English Accent Target — select US English, UK English, or Australian English. The AI models vocabulary and pronunciation from your chosen variety.
•Persona — choose how the AI relates to you: Friendly Colleague, Strict Boss, Patient Teacher, Impatient Customer, or Job Interviewer.
•Tone — set the conversational register: Casual, Formal, Challenging, or Supportive.
•First Language — tell the AI your native language. Used to anticipate common mistakes and personalise grammar explanations. See Help → Native Language & Correction Language for details.
•Corrections In — choose how the AI explains errors: English Only, In My Language, or Bilingual. See Help → Native Language & Correction Language for a full explanation.
When Do Changes Take Effect?
Profile settings (Track, Daily Target) are saved immediately and reflected on your track pages straight away.
Change Settings selections apply to the session you are about to start. They are remembered for your next visit so you do not need to re-select them each time.
To change First Language or Corrections In during an active session, tap the Settings icon in the session toolbar. The session reconnects immediately with the new settings.
